After developing an interest in drama with a local amateur group in Essex from the age of 11 I studied drama on a foundation diploma course in the performing arts at Barking College of Technology between 1975-77 finishing with a well recieved performance as Sitting Bull in Arthur Kopit’s ‘Indians’ at the Edinburgh Festival in ’77 -  the reviewer for The Scotsman found me ‘still and impressive’. I had gained a place on the B.A. Performing Arts Course at Middlesex Polytechnic but life took a different turn and I found myself working with children with learning difficulties in East Sussex, eventually I ended up back in London working in TV & Video post production in which I still freelance as an operator and consultant, specialising most recently in digital film restoration and also working as a fine art video editor  and production consultant, most notably with Hilary Lloyd who was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2011.

In 2007 I moved to Devon and got back into acting with two local non-professional groups: South Brent Amateur Dramatic Society and The Playgoers Society of Dartington Hall, of which I was chairman for a year until Feb 2014. Over the last seven years I have had some wonderful roles and a couple of directing opportunities.

The Birthday Party

As a result of working with her  in Playgoers I have worked professionally with Gaelle Stark-Ordish and her company ‘Another Story Theatre Company’. That company presented a commissioned promenade piece for the National Trust at High Cross House on Dartington estate in August 2012. I also created multi media projections and effects for this production, and subsequently others (Harvey & On the Razzle). Later that year we made an independent feature film adapted from the original play. I continue to be involved as an associated artist. 2015 saw a new venture with The Rotherfold Players take shape with the Rotherfold Bull, a community site specific play written by Totnes playwright Phil John of Darkstuff Productions in an initiative from the Rotherfold Improvement Group assisting Director Rosie Race as well as taking on the mantle of musical director as well as performing.

As well as theatre I play a bit music and can be found at various pub folk sessions, wassails and am a member of the Ukelective, a ukulele centred band formed in South Brent, in which I sing and play the guitarron..

In recent years I have taken advantage of my media know-how to create and prepare digital multi media elements to be for projection in live theatre, as well as designing and building sets.

I have experience in open air theatre and have some experience of stage combat, have fenced and can ride a horse too!
